Ushers

"Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked."
(Psalm 84:10)

Ushers are important servants of the church and perform a variety of tasks before, during, and after Mass; they are the representative of the church to parishioners, as well as visitors – who often receive their first impression of the church from the Ushers. 

Ushers are needed for each Mass. Based on the layout of our church, a minimum of four persons are necessary at each Mass to serve effectively and efficiently.

There are many functions performed by the Ushers – among these are the following:

• Greeting parishioners and visitors before Mass
• Distributing bulletins after Mass.
• Preparing the collection baskets for the offertory, taking up the collection and securing the offertory.
• Coordinating a family to bring the gifts to the altar.
• Ushering parishioners to receive the Eucharist and assisting with request for assistance to receive the Eucharist.
• Maintaining a respectful and orderly environment during Mass and assisting with unplanned incidents that may occur. 
• Attending to the needs of the disabled.
• Ensure the worship space is free from clutter and trash

• Ushers are scheduled according to their availability.
• Ushers are required to be parishioners of Saint Monica, and in good Catholic standing.
