"We are not called to serve merely in order to receive a reward, but rather to imitate God, who made Himself a servant for our love. Nor are we called to serve only now and again, but to live in serving."
(Pope Francis)
Sacristans come early to set up for Mass and make sure there are a sufficient number of liturgical ministers present. They prepare the chalices, the cruets, the linens, and the liturgical books. After Mass, they clean the vessels and collect the linens for the laundry, and put things away if it is the last Mass of the day. If you like to help in a quiet “behind the scenes” way, then becoming a sacristan may be the job for you. A Sacristan is responsible for “the care of holy things” used in the worship life of the parish.
