Remember that we call our liturgy the Sacrifice of the Mass. When we pray the Mass, we not only participate in the one sacrifice of Christ on the Cross but also have the opportunity to offer our own sacrifices along with His.
St. Augustine wrote about five offerings or sacrifices that are most pleasing to God: offerings of humility, praise, peace, charity, and mercy.
